DID YOU KNOW… ? Aug 2016

Our thoughts and prayers are with the many families in western states who have been effected by raging wildfires this summer, many losing their homes, businesses, and even their lives.  This long, hot, dry summer has taken a toll on many of us.  Our air has often been very unhealthy, with warnings to stay indoors when possible, and ‘Flex Alerts’ often being announced.  “The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we inhabit are not only critical elements in the quality of life we enjoy – they are a reflection of the majesty of our Creator.” -- Rick Perry … We want to thank all the brave firefighters for their efforts in preserving our quality of life here in the Sierra foothills.  We pray for their safety as they risk their lives daily to protect our neighborhoods … Classes for the 2016-2017 school year resumed here in August, and we all offer our prayers for a successful school year for the teachers, staff and students … In addition, we covet your prayers for a successful and exciting season of AWANA programs provided to the local youth here at Hilltop Chapel.  These after school programs are scheduled to begin in September, and we thank all the volunteers who give of their time and talents to provide this worthwhile program for our youth.  We shape tomorrow’s world by what we teach our children today, and if children are to find their way to God, we must point the way … Respect the old when you are young.  Help the weak when you are strong.  Confess your faults when you are wrong.  Because one day in life you will be old, weak and wrong … A free Tri-Tip barbecue with a concert starring Allen Frizzell and Family brought many of our local residents out on a warm evening in August.  Those attending thoroughly enjoyed the Country Gospel Ministry that Allen is well known for, and appreciated his traveling up the hill to bring the Good News to all of us here at Hilltop …  The Teen Mountain Ministry enjoyed their pool party and barbecue at Art and Joanne Hofer’s home in the valley.  Many thanks for their gracious hospitality, and our prayers are for a speedy recovery after Joanne’s double hand surgery … The Greatest Man in history is Jesus.  He had no servants, yet they called Him Master.  He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.  He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.  He had no army, yet kings feared Him.  He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.  He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.  He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today …  Sadly, we lost three of our faithful Children of Christ late in August.  Our Christian sister, Elaine Pike, went home to be with the Lord, and her very large family and circle of friends gathered here at Hilltop Chapel to celebrate her life and legacy.  She will be greatly missed.  Also, Bonnie Baldwin, a long-time resident who faithfully attended our church for many years was called home, and her memorial service will be held next month.   Dave Chaffin is now sitting at the right hand of God and we are grateful he knew and loved the Lord.   We are praying for the families who are grieving …  *UPCOMING EVENTS:   Mark your calendars for the Annual Evangel Home Banquet next month on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, and for the Christians in Action Annual Banquet, ‘Faces Around the World’ on Thursday, September 15, 2016 – both being held at Tornino’s Banquet Center in Fresno.   Our church reserves a couple of tables at each banquet, so make a point to attend and come hear how you can literally make a difference in the lives of so many around the world.  Also, our Baptism will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Hume Lake.
